At Stand in the Gap Ministries, we believe in the power of community and collaboration. Our Life Launch program supports young adults aging out of the foster care system, and helps young adults navigate the transition to independence with mentoring, life skills training, emotional, and spiritual support. Its impact is greatly enhanced by our partnerships. Every now and then, God leads us to partnerships like 111Project and CarePortal.
111Project’s mission to support children and families through foster care aligns with our mission to provide relational support. Their resources and network provide our young adults with more opportunities and support. Similarly, CarePortal connects us with local churches and community members who can address specific needs in real time. This support is crucial for many young adults in our program who lack a reliable support network.
Take the story of Ariel and her 13-month-old son, Gus. Gus had been in foster care for eight months, but Ariel had made significant changes in her life and was ready to bring her son home. She had a new job and apartment but needed essential items like a car seat, highchair, and crib. Through CarePortal, her caseworker sent a request to local churches. Several responded quickly, with Mandi Mays from LifeChurch SOKC gathering everything needed. This connection led to a new friendship between Mandi and Ariel, providing ongoing support and encouragement. Mandi even invited Ariel and Gus to church, further strengthening their community ties.
